WHITE SURFACE FINISHING MIX WITH EXTENDED SETTING TIME,
FOR GYPSUM FINISHING COATS AND
SEAM FINISHING BETWEEN PLASTERBOARDS
FOR INTERNAL USE
| AVAL KH 17 is a white finishing mix designed for gypsum finishing coats and preparing seams of plasterboard panels using reinforcing tapes. It is also suitable for filling defects of wall and ceiling surfaces. It can be used for typical mineral substrates such as concrete, aerated concrete, gypsum, cement, cement-lime and gypsum plasters. AVAL KH 17 is suitable for interior use; thickness of a single layer cannot exceed 2 mm. |
 |
| AVAL KH 17 is a ready-to-use dry mix based on natural gypsum, lime fillers and new generation modifying additives. Appropriately selected technical parameters ensure very smooth surface, perfect for paint or wallpapers. Easy preparation, plasticity, easy grinding, extended setting time and other operating parameters make AVAL KH 17 very convenient to use, ensuring quick completion of each stage of work. Finishing mixes may not be applied on substrates directly exposed to moisture. |
 |
| The substrate should be stable and structurally sound i.e. strong enough; it should be free from anything that may weaken adhesion, in particular dust, dirt, lime, oil, fat, wax and the remainder of paint. Remove poorly adhering pieces of the substrate by hammering off, whereas loose or flaking elements – using a steel brush. If necessary, use AVAL KT 17 priming emulsion to reduce substrate’s excessive absorptivity. Provide anticorrosion protection to all steel elements that may contact with the finishing mix. |
 |
| In order to prepare the mix, pour dry mix into a container with suitable amount of water (in the ratio of ca. 0.55 l water for 1 kg of dry mixture) and mix manually or mechanically (a drill with a mixer for gypsum) until homogenous. The finishing mix is ready to use after ca. 5 minutes and after remixing. At this stage, adjusts mix consistency by adding water or pouring dry mix (in case of filling larger defects, it should be thicker). If prepared in accordance with the aforementioned recipe, it maintains its properties for ca. 2 hours. Prepare AVAL KH 17 in clean containers (the remainder of set gypsum shortens the setting time of the fresh finishing mix). |

Finishing coat preparation
Apply AVAL KH 17 evenly on the surface using a smooth float made of steel. Smooth the applied mix successively as work progresses. It is recommended to fill in large defects in the substrate before finishing coat preparation. Apply on walls by placing the mix in the form of strips, starting from the floor towards the ceiling, moving the float upwards. Apply on ceilings by placing strips, starting from the window area towards the opposite wall, moving the float towards yourself. When the mix dries, even out any irregularities using sanding paper or a wire cloth. To remove the remaining irregularities, spread another thin layer and grind. Open time of the mix depends on substrate absorptivity, ambient temperature and mortar consistency. When the finishing mix dries, do not expose the floor to direct sunlight and draughts, and provide proper ventilation of rooms. Begin further finishing work such as painting, wallpapering when the finishing mix dries. Before applying water paints, prime the finishing coat with a preparation recommended by paint manufacturer. Before facing fixing, prime the finishing coat with AVAL KT 17.
Plasterboards jointing
Begin jointing of plasterboards after they are firmly fixed. Put the mix crosswise to panel edge so that it tightly fills in the seam (the width between panels should be ca. 2 mm). Then distribute AVAL KH 17 on the whole seam length using a wide spatula and set a reinforcing mesh in the fresh mix. Float again the seam and grind to obtain even and smooth surface.
The information comprises basic instructions of product application and do not relieve users of responsibility for work in accordance with good construction practice and OHS regulations. |
 |
| On average 1 kg of the mix is used for 1 m2 for each 1 mm of the layer. |
 |
| Drill with mixer, plastic container, typical stainless steel tools for plastering, sanding paper or wire cloth. Wash the tools with clean water directly after use. Clean the remainder of the set mix that is difficult to remove with AVAL KL 55 washing agent. |
