WHITE LIQUID ADHESIVE OF INCREASED FLEXIBILITY (4 - 20 mm)
FOR LARGE FLOOR TILES OR TILES WITH INCREASED ABSORPTION,
FOR EXTERNAL AND INTERNAL USE, RECOMMENDED FOR TERRACES, BALCONIES, AND IN FLOOR HEATING SYSTEMS
| AVAL KM 24 is a specialist adhesive designed for fixing large floor tiles and tiles that have a very strongly profiled bottom surface. It is recommended for fixing tiles with increased absorption i.e. made of natural and synthetic marble, natural stone or stone agglomerate. AVAL KM 24 is perfect for ceramic floor tiles on balconies, terraces, in large presentable rooms, stairs, etc. It can be used on concrete, cement or anhydrite screed and in floor heating systems. It is suitable for internal and external use with thickness of the adhesion layer of 4÷20 mm. |
 |
| AVAL KM 24 is a ready-to-use dry mix of top-quality cement binder – “white cement”, aggregates and modifying agents. As opposed to mortars based on “grey cement”, it does not cause discolouration of absorbent stone or ceramic tiles. The possibility of adjusting operating consistency of the adhesive (from liquid to plastic) and a wide range of adhesive layer thickness (4÷20 mm) ensures that the adhesive facilitates levelling of fixed tiles as well as enables to prepare them with a small slope. AVAL KM 24 enables to fix tiles and adjust surface irregularities (within the range of allowable adhesive thickness) without prior levelling layer. Its operating parameters guarantee its free spreading out under the surface of fixed tiles, making it possible to obtain total adhesion surface without voids. It has increased flexibility that ensures its resistance to deformations occurring during the period of use in the layer arrangement: substrate - adhesive – tile (e.g. on terraces or floor and in wall heating systems). AVAL KM 24 is frost-resistant and water-proof. |
 |
| The substrate may be slightly irregular, but has to be dry and structurally sound i.e. strong enough; it should be free from anything that may weaken adhesion of the adhesive, in particular dust, dirt, lime, oil, grease, wax, remains of emulsion and oil paint. If necessary, use AVAL KT 17 or AVAL KN 97 priming emulsion to reduce substrate`s excessive absorption. Fix tiles after applied priming emulsion dries. |
 |
| In order to prepare the adhesive, pour dry adhesive into a container with suitable amount of water (in proportion: 0.21 ÷ 0.24 water for 1 kg of dry adhesive) and mix until homogenous. It is best to mix it mechanically, using a drill with a mixer. The adhesive is ready to use after 5 minutes and after remixing. It maintains its properties for ca. 4 hours. |
 |
| Apply the adhesive to the prepared substrate and make a thin contact layer with a smooth float made of steel, ensuring even distribution. Put the appropriate layer of adhesive on the fresh contact layer and shape it (possibly in one direction) using a notched trowel. In both cases, do not lay the adhesive over excessively large surface because it maintains its adhesive properties for 10÷30 minutes (depending on the substrate and environment). In order to check if it is still possible to fix tiles, you should make a test, i.e. press the mortar with your fingers. If the adhesive has remained on the fingers, you may fix tiles. If the fingers are clean, remove the old layer of the adhesive and apply a new one. After shaping the applied mortar, place a tile over and press lightly towards the substrate. Apply such an amount od the adhesive that when a tile is pressed down, the adhesive is under the whole surface of the tile. Tile position may be adjusted within 10 minutes afterwards. If grouting is to be carried out, remove excess of the adhesive when tiles are pressed towards the surface. The floor can be accessed or grouted no earlier than 24 hours after the tiles have been fixed; the adhesive achieves its full functional strength after 3 days. Caution: in case of fixing thin marble tiles, there may appear temporary discolouration resulting from high marble absorptivity. Fixed marble will regain its previous colour after ca. 7 days i.e. after complete drying. The information comprises basic instructions of product application and does not relieve users of responsibility for work in accordance with good construction practice and OHS regulations. |

On average 1.5 kg of the adhesive is used for 1 m2 for each 1 mm of the adhesive layer. In practice consumption depends on how smooth and even the substrate is and what type of ceramic material is applied.
Approximate consumption of adhesive for selected types of tiles
| Type of tile | Trowel`s notch size | Thickness of adhesive layer | Average consumption (kg/m2) |
Medium tiles
(25x25 cm)
of medium profiled bottom surface | 10 mm with straight notches | ca. 4.0 mm | 6.0 |
| Large tiles (30x30 cm) of medium and strongly profiled bottom surface | Above 10 mm with rounded notches | ca. 8.0 mm | 12.0 |
