PRIMING MASS UNDER THIN-LAYER RENDERS
TO INCREASE ADHESION AND STRENGTHEN SUBSTRATES
FOR INTERNAL AND EXTERNAL USE
| AVAL KT 16 is a priming mass used for substrate preparation under thin-layer renders: mineral (e.g. AVAL KT 137, SN-MAL, KT 35, KT 150), resin (e.g. AVAL KT 64, and KT 60, KT 77) and gypsum renders. AVAL KT 16 is a general-purpose priming agent for all types of substrates. It can be used on mineral surfaces (e.g. cement render, cement-lime render), on plasterboard panels and on smooth substrates of very low absorption (e.g. concrete walls and ceilings, OSBs). AVAL KT 16 is also an inseparable part of AVAL ETICS, AVAL KT 83, AVAL KT 53/KT 55 and AVAL KT 190 External Wall Insulation systems. For 6 months, AVAL KT 16 can be used as a temporary protective layer of External Wall Insulation system (before the finishing layer of the thin-layer render is applied). It is suitable for internal and external use. |
| AVAL KT 16 is a ready-to-use priming mass based on quartz flours and acrylic resins. It is a white priming agent. Additionally, it is available in three colours (clinker, brown and graphite) as a prime coat for selected colours of AVAL KT 77 mosaic renders. It is efficient, very convenient and easy to use. Aggregate content enhances surface coarseness, making application of successive layers easier, and increases the contact area of the render or adhesives with the substrate. Application of AVAL KT 16 improves adhesion and prevents appearance stains on the thin-layer render resulting from inappropriate substrate preparation or its properties. |
| The substrate should be stable, even and structurally sound i.e. strong enough; it should be free from anything that may weaken adhesion, in particular dust, dirt, lime, oil, fat, wax. Remove existing paint and render coats of insufficient adhesion. Before work commencement, prime the substrate using AVAL KT 17. Fill in irregularities and defects using e.g. AVAL KM 41 levelling mortar, AVAL KT 111 plastering mix or AVAL KT 85, AVAL KT 55 and AVAL KT 190 adhesives (in jointless External Wall Insulation systems). |
| AVAL KT 16 priming mass is ready to use. It may not be combined with other materials, diluted or thickened. Having opened a bucket, mix its contents until homogenous. |
| Distribute AVAL KT 16 on prepared substrate (evenly on the whole surface) with a roller or paintbrush. Do not apply the mass below +5°C. Begin surface plastering or facing fixing after the mass completely dries i.e. after ca. 4÷6 hours from its application. The information comprises basic instructions of product application and do not relieve users of responsibility for work in accordance with good construction practice and OHS regulations. |
| On average, 0.3 kg is sufficient for 1 m2. |
